ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, helped Twin City citizens initiate a rally targeting
Coldwell Banker, the real estate giant who does business with finance companies often deemed predatory by clients who
have done business with them.
The rally took place at the Coldwell Bankers’ 7550 France Avenue location on May 25. Nearly 50 area residents carried
placards and chanted slogans objecting to finance practices that have bilked low-income Minnesota homeowners out of
tens of thousands of dollars during refinancing and first-home purchase transactions.
Parents with children, seniors, immigrant citizens, and students voiced their contempt for unfair lending practices
at the rally.
For over 35 years ACORN has taken action and won victories on issues of concern to members, such as better housing,
living wages for low-wage workers, more investment in our communities from banks and governments, and better public
schools.
The organization has recently formed a Northeast Minneapolis chapter to address issues of crime due to decreased
police protection and increased gang activity in the Second Precinct.r
